Councillors to head ward-level committees

‘Mazhayethum Munpe,’ the fifth edition of the pre-monsoon sanitation drive of the Kozhikode Corporation, will officially be launched on May 15 with a few ward-level activities, though the programme is already in progress.

As of now, many drains are cleared of silt, algae, and other solid waste using machines, under the aegis of the health standing committee of the Corporation.

Committee chairperson Janamma Kunhunni told

The sanitation squads were to visit houses and institutions to create awareness on the need for pre-monsoon cleaning. They would propagate the need for source-level processing of solid waste and advise to observe one day in a week as ‘dry day.’ Breeding grounds of mosquitoes had to be destroyed on that day.

Anti-rat drive

Like in the previous year, a mass drive would be held to kill rats in the Corporation limits on May 20. Accordingly, all households would set up poison traps for the rats at 6 p.m. A workshop would be held at the Tagore Centenary hall on the same morning for councillors and health officials.
