District statistics for last 2 years

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), a flagship programme intended to achieve universal elementary education in a time-bound manner, spent Rs.64.48 crore in the district in the last two academic years.

The SSA is mandated by the 86th Amendment to the Constitution of India to ensure free and compulsory education to children aged between 6 and 14 years. Statistics indicated a steady increase in expenditure under SSA. This was testimony to increased penetration of the scheme in Kozhikode, official sources said. In the 2011-12 academic year, Rs.27.16 crore was spent. It rose to Rs.37.32 crore in 2012-13. As per the SSA website, there were 379 government, 826 aided, and 41 unaided schools in the district.
