Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has issued directives to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to conduct a study and submit a report on a proposal linking Beypore harbour to Malaparamba via Kozhikode beach.
This was announced by M.K. Raghavan, MP, in a statement here on Wednesday. The Kozhikode MP had met Mr. Gadkari and apprised him of such a project to solve the traffic problem in the city. Malaparamba Junction is the link to the National Highway 66 and National Highway 766, Goa, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu States. Similarly Beypore is one of the major harbours on the south-western coast. It handles a cargo of one lakh tons and 7,500 passengers every year.
The proposed port connectivity project consists of 18.4 km without acquiring any additional land. The road project starts from Beypore port and culminates at Malaparamba Junction. This can be further divided into three sections, namely, a four-lane Beypore port to Kozhikode beach, (Panickar Road intersection) and elevated highway to Eranhipalam junction, and a four-lane from Eranhipalam to Malaparamba Junction.

The four-lane from Beypore port to Kozhikode beach is a 13.4-km stretch that passes through Gotheeswaram, Marad, Payyanakkal, Kothi and South beach. The new elevated highway is required over the existing Panickar road which crosses the railway line.
The proposed elevated highway passes over Panickar Road, Vellayil, Nadakkavu, Manorama Junction, East Nadakkavu, Eranjpalam and joins Eranhipalam Junction on Wayanad Road (NH-212).
It will is 2.9 kms. The four-lane Eranhipalam to Malapramba junction is 2.1 km and the four-laning of the NH from Manachira to Vellimadukunnu stretch is already under way, which includes this portion.
