The health wing of the Kozhikode City Corporation has asked a private firm to relocate migrant labourers from their construction site on S.M. Street after one of them was diagnosed with cholera recently.
An official in the department told The Hindu on Saturday that as many as 12 labourers were found to be staying in a makeshift dwelling near the site. The premises were found unhygienic, while sanitation facilities were in a pathetic state. “We directed the firm to shift the employees after an inspection of the premises,” the official added.
Two migrant labourers from West Bengal, one staying on S.M. Street and another at Narikkuni, were diagnosed with cholera, and they are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College here.

Water samples
Meanwhile, the water samples collected by the Health Department from wells near labour camps reached the Centre for Water Resource Development and Management only on Friday. The results are expected only by the end of next week owing to the hartal on Monday and a government holiday on Wednesday. The department has chlorinated the wells.
