Minister for Ports and Museums Kadannappally Ramachandran has said efforts will be taken, in consultation with historians, to declare ‘Kunhali Marakkar Day’ and observe the day every year.
The minister, while opening a seminar on the contributions of the Marakkars in resisting the invasions of Portuguese colonialists, at Sargaalaya Arts and Crafts Village near Vadakara on Friday, said discussions would be held with experts to pick a particular day to commemorate the contributions made by the four Marakkars across the State.
“It is a matter of pride for all of us that the tourists come in search of the historical monuments and structures in all the 14 districts in Kerala. Our citizens too should be educated about the historical importance of the locations around them,” said Mr. Ramachandran.

Conservation project
The Minister visited the Marakkar memorial museum at Iringal and paid floral tributes. He said the government would come up with more conservation projects for the museum. He held discussions with Koyilandy MLA K. Dasan to take over the additional land near the museum to initiate more conservation activities.
