A 37-year-old woman from Kasaragod district, who was declared brain dead following a road traffic accident, turned a life-saver as her heart, liver and kidneys were donated to four persons. All the organs were harvested at Pariyaram Medical College and brought to Aster MIMS in Kozhikode for transplantation.
The recipients were chosen as per the waiting list with the Kerala Network of Organ Sharing. A press release from Aster MIMS said that with the police in Kannur and Kozhikode extended good support by regulating traffic from the medical college hospital in Kannur to the hospital here, the organs reached the transplantation centre in less than two hours. The heart was transplanted in a 27-year-old man belonging to Kozhikode, who was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy for some years.
The liver went to a 51-year-old man from Malappuram. While one kidney was transplanted in a 25-year-old woman from Koyilandy, the other went to a 51-year-old woman from Vadakara.
