The Local Self-Government Department has come up with a variety of schemes to prevent delay in the administrative process. After the town planning adalat on Monday, Minister for Local Self Government K.T. Jaleel said the online facility for building permits, proposed to be implemented in the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation with the help of the Malabar Chamber of Commerce, will come into effect within two months. The software for the project has been approved. Once the project is implemented, the public will not have to visit the corporation office often to get their building permits sanctioned. The application as well as approval will be made online. Applicants can download permits themselves.
The software for the project, developed by Bengaluru based e-Governments Foundation, has been approved by the corporation council and the State government. The ₹50-lakh project is being completely funded by the Malabar Chamber of Commerce. The agreement to implement the project was signed on February 6, 2017.
There is an inbuilt file-tracking system in the software that eliminates delays in settling files. An architect or an engineer can upload applications through the software and building owners will get SMSs of the dates for document verification and site examination. An exclusive desk will be set up at the corporation office for this.

In the adalat held on Monday, corporation officials had been asked to complete building permit procedures within 30 days of the submission of applications and had been issued an ultimatum to find ‘missing files’.
