Offered bribe to CM, others: Biju Radhakrishnan

February 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 02:29 pm IST - Kozhikode:

Solar scam accused Biju Radhakrishnan has alleged that he had offered bribe to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, a former Union Minister of State, several State Ministers and Congress legislators to settle the case.

He said this in a 14-page letter which he handed over to the media while appearing for trial in a solar scam case at the Kozhikode First Class Judicial Magistrate Court here on Monday.

Radhakrishnan told the media that he had offered the bribe to the Chief Minister at Pulppally and at Rama Nilayam in Thrissur.

Many wondered how a solar company which had a case of Rs.6 crore against it had given a bribe of Rs.7.5 crore. The fact was that the company had mobilised over Rs.25 crore. As managing director of the company he was aware of this, Radhakrishnan said.

A big share of the mobilised amount was unaccounted. Of this, the lion’s share was given as bribe to the Chief Minister and others. The company got into trouble when the project failed to take off at the promised time.

The letter said that the Chief Minister would have stepped down the next day if the cross-examination of Sarita S. Nair had taken place at the sitting of the commission that probed the solar cases. However, Sarita had tired to scuttle her cross-examination.

The transcript of Thampanoor Ravi revealed that the Congress leaders feared her cross-examination. That was why Sarita wanted an in-camera trial, he said.
