No graft in Kudumbasree e-shop allocation: Mayor

July 15, 2014 01:29 pm | Updated 01:29 pm IST - Kozhikode:

There is no corruption in the allocation of Kudumbasree e-shops and kiosks, according to Kozhikode Mayor A. K. Premajam.

At a press conference here on Monday, she termed such allegations by the Opposition councillors as baseless and politically motivated.

All decisions regarding e-shops and kiosks were taken by the council in which the Opposition had taken part and all procedures had been followed while implementing the decision. The allegations were meant to destroy the good work done by the Kudumbasree mission, which was making exemplary strides in the area of womens’ empowerment.

She said that those who had sent her recommendation letters to include people from their respective wards as beneficiaries of these projects included those who levelled the charges of corruption against the council

“If they disapproved of any products including the branded coffee being sold at the e-shop, that could have been discussed at the council and an appropriate decision taken without making such corruption charges,” she said.

Deputy Mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef, who also spoke on the occasion, said that it was strange that the Opposition councillors were making allegations of corruptions even on projects such as the ‘Food on wheels,’ which was not even discussed or passed by the council.

Ulterior motives

“Such blind allegations can only stem from ulterior motives,” said Mr. Latheef.
