A three-day mass cleaning drive with the support of various government and non-governmental agencies was completed on Thursday at Changaroth panchayat where three persons died of Nipah viral infection.
Volunteers of Kerala Suchitwa Mission, Haritha Keralam, and Niravu Vengeri lent a helping hand. Not less than 23 loads of non-degradable waste were collected from the panchayat for recycling.
Leaflets on Nipah virus prevention issued by the Health Department were also distributed among households during the drive. Kudumbasree workers and Accredited Social Health Activists came in support of the door-to-door awareness initiative.

All cleaning workers and volunteers were given masks and gloves by the Sanitation Mission.
On Friday, the team will make a field visit to various locations in Puthuppadi, Kattippara and Thamarassery panchayats where suspected Nipah cases were reported. The volunteers’ group will be divided into three for inspection.
The mass cleaning drive in the three panchayats will be carried out on May 27. Niravu Vengeri, the city-based residents’ collective, will be entrusted with segregation and removal of degradable and non-degradable waste.
