The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation’s education standing committee has come up with a set of teaching modules for teachers of high Schools and higher Secondary Schools in the city with an aim to improve the pass percentage in SSLc and Plus two. The teaching modules will complement the efforts made by the Corporation in schools by providing special coaching to weak students.
The modules that have already been distributed in the schools were prepared with the assistance of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET). “We conducted a workshop for the teachers in aided and government schools in the city and a core academic committee was selected from them to prepare the modules”, Chairman of the Education standing Committee M.Radhakrishnan said.
Releasing the modules, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that the SSLC and Higher Secondary results of the city last year were poor compared to rural Kozhikode and that the modules will help in levelling the gap. A 99.3 percent pass in 2015 had slipped to 96 percent in 2016.

The modules have been prepared in 29 combinations for the Higher Secondary classes and for 12 subjects in High School. Ten copies of each module are being distributed per school. There are separate modules for Malayalam and English medium schools.
Kozhikode Corporation has been making attempts to improve the educational standards in city schools for the last four years. However, this is the first time such a disciplined effort is being made.
“We analysed the results of the second term examinations thoroughly to identify the weak points. The students were categorised based on their results and the weaker ones are being given special attention”, said V.P.Rajeevan, Education Committee Coordinator.
