June 10, 2014 11:46 am | Updated 11:46 am IST - Kozhikode:

Mullappally Ramachandran, Vadakara MP and former Union Minister of State for Home, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to refer the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister in New Delhi, Mr. Ramachandran said the killing of Chandrasekharan on May 4, 2012, had shocked Kerala, and the incident had been a subject of hot debate across the country.

The State government had already recommended a CBI probe to the Centre.

The investigation conducted by the State police revealed a larger conspiracy behind the murder. The people of the State believed that this conspiracy could be unearthed by the CBI alone.

The Department of Personnel and Training had decided in March to refer the matter to the CBI for further investigation, Mr. Ramachandran said.

He said the murder of K.T. Jayakrishnan, a school teacher and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist, also needed to be probed. Jayakrishnan was killed in the presence of his students in a classroom.
