Mini theatre opened for police personnel

It will screen movies that boost the morale of policemen

The Balussery police on Saturday opened a mini theatre on the station compound to encourage police personnel and women to watch awareness films on self-motivation and social empowerment. District Police Chief (Kozhikode Rural) M.K. Pushkaran inaugurated the theatre. The opening film was the popular Iranian film, The Taste of Cherry directed by Abbas Kiarostami.

Speaking on the occasion, Circle Inspector K. Suhir said the facility would be made available to all policemen in the district who loved to watch world classics as well as motivational films.

The primary objective of the theatre is to screen movies that boost the morale of policemen and help them meet challenges, he said.

The department had granted nearly ₹1.50 lakh to set up the theatre. It has a seating capacity of 50 persons. A hall in the Janamaithri community policing building was spared to set up the facility.

Officials said the theatre was equipped with a quality projector and screen, which were purchased using government.

The Taste of Cherry as the opening movie, as it was found to be giving a message against suicide. Some recent suicides by policemen also prompted us to choose the movie for the maiden screening,” Mr. Suhir said.

Thamarassery Deputy Superintendent of Police P.C. Sajeevan chaired the function.

Balussery Station House Officer Anoop G. Menon, psychologist P.N. Balakrishnan Nambiar, and writer K. Sreekumar were present.
