Fifth in the ‘Living Room’ series of exhibitions by artist and advertisement professional Sunil Linus De, ‘Lights in Life’ takes one back to the countryside of yore and kindles the memories of childhood.

The exhibition features realistic paintings of scenes and sceneries that one does not get to see nowadays, like children playing with an abandoned cycle wheel or flying kites or fishing in the countryside. Pictures of a man carrying bunches of fish across a paddy field or a woman sheltering herself from the rain with a plantain leaf have disappeared from even the remotest corners of Kerala these days. But Mr. Sunil, through his paintings, has preserved those memories.

“These paintings are not just sceneries. All of them have life in it and hence the title,” the artist said, adding that water colour, due to its transparent nature was the best medium to convey the subtlety of light. An advertisement professional, Mr. Sunil believes he does not have to speak about serious world issues, and that the mundane things of daily life are his forte. “I want my works to communicate on their own, without someone having to interpret them”, he said.
