Landslips wreak panic

Landslips, caused by incessant rains, occurred in Panangad panchayat here leading to destruction of 15 acres of plantations and livestock on early Saturday morning.

The landslips occurred in two separate spots in Vaarimala area of the panchayat. Two houses were partially damaged by boulders carried down the hill by the flood.

However, there were no casualties, as there was no one in the houses at that time.

Two cows that were buried alive in the debris were pulled out using cranes.

Authorities have also evacuated 21 people from seven families.

Those who have suffered losses in this incident would be compensated as per the provisions of the Disaster Responsibility Fund, Kozhikode District Collector C.A. Latha, who visited the spots, said. The District Administration has directed emergency safety measures in the area.
