The hilly regions in the district witnessed two landslides, with a major one occurring at Nagambara near Thottilppalam on Friday evening.
A large tract of cultivated land was destroyed in the landslip that occurred around 4 p.m. No casualties have been reported. “We had taken precautionary measures,” District Collector C.A. Latha said.
A mudflow that occurred on the first curve of the Wayanad ghats blocked the road leading to Wayand district for quite some time. The two-way traffic was restored after the debris was removed by the police, Fire and Rescue Services personnel with the local people. The road was cleared before the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), camping at a Thamarassery school, reached the spot, she said. Incessant rain in the afternoon flooded the markets at Engappuzha and Adviram bordering Kozhikode-Wayanad district. Traffic almost came to a halt in the region, especially on the NH 212. The Collector said that a portion of the Kuttiyadi – Wayanad road was washed away in the heavy rain. “The village officials and tahsildars have been asked to take relief steps in case of further eventuality,” Ms. Latha said.

She said that the NDRF team would be deployed for rescue operations in the affected areas. But the Meteorological Department issued a warning of inclement weather in the coming days.
