Steps are being taken to enable land tax payment through mobile phones, Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash has said. The pilot project would be implemented in three villages each in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts, he said after opening a 305-metre suspension bridge, linking Madakkal beach and Vadakke Valappu, in Valiyaparamba village, near Cheruvathur, here on Monday. The details of the tax to be remitted would be sent to the owner through Short Messaging Service.

The amount would be transferred from the bank account on furnishing the requisite details at the village office. Steps were being taken to give land to one lakh landless families by August 15, the Minister said. District Collectors had been asked to initiate procedures for the establishment of 12 new taluks in the State, he said.
