Inspired by the “enviable growth” achieved by the footwear sector in Kozhikode, through a series of focused activities, the Kerala State Small Industries Association has decided to “replicate” the success in other potential sectors including food processing, plastics, wood and furniture industries.
This is being planned through diverse initiatives including international technology exhibitions, industry seminars, and business-to-business meetings for potential entrepreneurs here.
The event ‘Rising Kerala 2014,’ which would begin in the city on September 28, would be one such initiative, its organisers said in a press meet here on Monday. The event, comprising a variety of segments including machinery, raw materials, and product exhibitions, seminars, interactive sessions and business-to-business meetings, would last for over a month.

Chief Minister Oomen Chandy would inaugurate the event at Hotel Taj Gateway in the city on Sunday, said M. Khalid, chairman of the organising committee.
The event, organised in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Footwear Industry (CIFI) and the Footwear Design and Development Centre (FDDC), would be at different venues in the city.
As a curtain raiser to the event, a face-to-face programme between the people’s representatives and some of the leading industrialists from the region would be held at Hotel Hyson Heritage on Tuesday.

Rising Kerala 2014, would feature different programmes including industrialists’ meet, experience sharing, motivation sessions by leading trainers, technical sessions, and demonstrations of advanced technologies in different production sectors. “Experts in their respective area from different countries will explain the possibilities of new approaches and technologies in the current industrial sector,” said V.K.C. Naushad, general convenor of the organising committee.
According to him, food processing, plastics, wood and furniture, building materials and light engineering would be the priority sectors.
The machinery-material expo to be held at Swapna Nagari as part of the event on November 25 and 26 would be one of the major attractions. The show would have around 500 stalls. “Around 200 firms have booked the stalls,” said Mr. Naushad. Details about the event could be had from the event website www.risingkerala.com.
