87.05 per cent pass in higher secondary exams

The district put up a great show in the higher secondary examinations, the result of which was announced by Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb on Thursday.

With 87.05 per cent, the district also has the credit for having the highest pass percentage in the State. Last year, the figure was 83.87.

While the district had only two schools scoring cent per cent victory last year, three have made it this time — St. Joseph’s Anglo Indian Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Silver Hills Higher Secondary School, and Presentation Higher Secondary School. As many as 17 students secured 100 per cent marks (1,200 out of 1,200) in the examination.

A marked improvement is visible in the result of the vocational higher secondary school as well this year. From last year’s pass percentage of 76.66, it galloped to 87.58 per cent this year, an increase of 11 points. Last time, only one school had touched the cent percent mark from the district, whereas two did it this time — M.M. VHSS, Kozhikode (54 candidates), and Koothali VHSS, Perambra (56 candidates).

As many as 2,456 students had appeared in the examinations in the VHSS category, of which 2,151 secured eligibility for higher studies. A few schools such as the VHS and Technical HS Vadakara, and Government Ganapath VHSS, Feroke, missed the cent per cent mark with one student not making it in the examination.

Ten vocational higher secondary schools fielded more than 100 students for the examination and the REC Government VHSS, Chathamangalam, which secured 88 per cent victory, had the largest number of students (176) taking the VHSS exams from the district this year.
