The Kozhikode Government Medical College is poised for further development with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promising to release Rs.125 crore for upgrading the medical college.
Funds for upgrading facilities at the medical college would be sanctioned at the next meeting of the Union Cabinet, M.K. Raghavan, MP, said on Tuesday after a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi.

The college is among the seven medical colleges in the country which had been chosen for upgrading under the PMSSY programme.
Though approval for upgrading facilities at the college had been obtained, the volume of financial support was decided only on Tuesday at a meeting the MP had with the Prime Minister.

Mr. Raghavan was told that the Finance Ministry had given its green signal to the proposal and funds would be sanctioned at the next meeting of the Union Cabinet.
Mr. Raghavan said development of the medical college would bring immense benefits to patients in six districts in northern Kerala who were dependent on this medical college for medical care.
The Centre had already granted financial support for elevating the Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences attached to the medical college to the status of centre of excellence.
