Koduvally to have intelligent property management system

GIS-based service, the first in State, to be rolled out on January 31

An intelligent property management system based on Geographic Information System (GIS) is on the anvil in Koduvally municipality.

The system, expected to be ready by January 31, will help the municipal authorities quickly access minute details of the available land resources, revenue assets, and other citizen-related information through a portal and use it for the speedy preparation of future development projects.

Koduvally municipal vice chairman A.P. Majeed said the project would be implemented with the support of Kozhikode-based UL Technology Solutions at a cost of ₹38 lakh. A field survey is on in the municipality for the preparation of a cadastral map (providing details of ownership and value of land for the purpose of taxation) and other land-related information covering around 115 specific areas, he added.

Mr. Majeed pointed out that the new project, claimed to be the first of its kind initiative taken up by a civic body in the State, will showcase newer possibilities of revolutionising the conventional style of administration, using digital tools.

“At a mouse click, the municipal authorities can access complete details of any property within the municipal limits. There will be also features for getting a clear satellite image of the needed location,” he informed.

A major leap that the municipality hopes to make with the launch of the system is the speedy submission of projects for State and Central assistance. Accurate data with GIS-based information can be submitted along with the proposals to convince the authorities and get the demands met on time, he pointed out.

Manual records featuring available revenue land, total extent of cultivated area, wetland resources, tourist destinations, and locations of historical importance will be digitised under the project. Differential Global Positioning System, an advanced form of GPS navigation which gives greater positioning accuracy than the standard GPS, will be used for the project.

The portal is also expected to have features that can deliver timely updates on various applications under process. Officials said the time taken to visit various departments to ascertain the status of files could be reduced to a commendable extent with the launch of the service. Submission of building plans and their approval process too will be made more transparent under the new service.
