Gang robs youth of 1.2 kg of gold

An unidentified gang, pretending to be officials from the Directorate of Enforcement, grabbed around 1.2 kg of gold from a youth who was working with a leading jewellery group in the city on Monday.

The incident took place around 3.30 p.m. near Palayam junction when the youth was on his way to the jewellery shop with the gold worth Rs. 40 lakh.

According to the police, the youth who stopped his bike on seeing a stop gesture from the gang, was immediately asked to get into a car with the gold under the pretext of an ‘inspection’.

“Soon after he entered the vehicle, the gang overpowered him and secured the gold. He was later found near the Kozhikode Medical College premises with injuries,” the police said.

The police said that they had got the registration details of the car used for the operation of the heist.

“The message has been passed to all police stations and the highway police have been alerted to intensify their checking of all vehicles,” the police said.
