District Collector U.V. Jose has asked Public Works Department officials to prepare a plan for the restoration of the century-old Additional District Magistrate’s bungalow at Malaparamba in the city.

After visiting the building here on Tuesday, he said that the structure needed to be conserved. Meanwhile, historian M.G.S. Narayanan criticised the reported move to demolish the bungalow.

He told reporters that the former District Collector N. Prashanth had taken a decision to bring down the structure and a report had been submitted to the State government.

“It is a hundred-year-old structure built by the British and a heritage building. I don’t think it needs to be demolished. It may need some repair though,” Mr. Narayanan said. He said that no one has been staying on the premises for the past eight years.
