DIC to set up 1,350 microenterprises

Around 7,500 jobs will be created, as the Department of Industries and Commerce decided to set up 1,350 micro, small, and medium enterprises, as announced by General Manager Simon Zakariyas on Thursday.

The Department of Industries and Commerce has decided to set up 1,350 micro, small and medium enterprises at a cost of Rs. 250 crore in the district this fiscal.

This was informed by District Industries Centre (DIC) General Manager Simon Zakariyas here on Thursday.

About 7,500 jobs would be created by establishing these enterprises.

As part of the project, he said that entrepreneurs would be imparted a 15-day training programme in two categories of entrepreneurship. About 30 seminars would be conducted aimed at creating awareness among the youth. Those willing to start new ventures in different fields would be introduced to the technical know-how.

The District Industries Centre would offer facilities to new entrepreneurs for training to familiarise them with technological clinics and help them exhibit their products through trade fairs, Mr. Zakariyas said.

He said that the DIC had facilitated the establishment of 4,623 units at a cost of Rs. 521 crore in the district during 2011-2015. As many as 24,674 persons had secured employment in the last four years.

Through the entrepreneurship assistance scheme, 105 persons got subsidy to the tune of Rs 3.63 crore and through the State investment subsidy project, 56 persons were given Rs 2.93 crore.

Another 35 persons got financial aid of Rs 59 lakh by way of the margin money loan project.

Two entrepreneurs were provided a grant of Rs. 50,000 in the Beedi workers rehabilitation programme.

Six women got assistance to the tune of Rs 9 lakh under the women’s industrial programme.

A sum of Rs 1.8 lakh had also been distributed to 30 entrepreneurship development clubs in the district.

The general manager also said that the DIC had successfully conducted multi-level programmes in all the taluks for the benefit of small and medium enterprises.

A brain-storming meet and investment meet were held to enhance entrepreneurship. Besides, a mega exhibition was held to introduce new machinery to entrepreneurs, he said.
