A two-day workshop on robotics held in Kozhikode threw light on the natural traits in children to understand the nuances of the subject.

“Children always amaze us wherever we go. They exceed expectations. May be we are seasoned not to have such high expectations”, Christopher Dhas, Business Head (School Division) of Edutech, a Chennai based company that provides technological assistance in education, said. He was speaking of his experience in introducing the concept of robotics to students across the country.

Mr. Dhas was part of the two-day robotics workshop at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls at Nadakkavu here. The workshop was attended by around 200 students and teachers from Kozhikode and Malappuram districts. The first day was entirely for the students of classes 9, 10, and 11 of the host school while the second day was for any student interested in it.

The participants were given practical training in making robots from the available spare parts, and programming them to suit a definite set of requirements.

“The aim is to help them put the theory they have learnt into practise. Also, it will help them to acquire team-work skills, as they are made to work in teams for each of the exercises,” Mr. Dhas said.

Edutech has been organising robotics workshops in different parts of the country for many years. They help to make learning interesting through robotics.
