The Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition should visit the proposed location of the super-specialty hospital at Edakkad to get a picture of the possible hazards posed by it, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader P.K. Krishnadas has said.
He was inaugurating a public meeting organised at the venue of the 100-day protest against the hospital at Edakkad on Monday.
He said all officials and political leaders who had ‘received bribes from the hospital management’ should return it.

Around 500 people took part in a march taken out from East Hill to the venue of the protest. BJP leader M.T. Ramesh, who delivered the keynote address at a public meeting that followed, said the District Collector was supporting the corporate management of the hospital.
The management had greased the palms of the officials concerned, political party leaders, and the media. They could buy only the leaders while the public would stand united, he said.
He challenged the State government to deal with the illegal construction through legal methods.

On October 14, protestors had tried to stop a vehicle taking building materials to the site. The police allegedly refused to check the contents of the vehicle. The protestors said the court had banned the filling of the site using quarry waste and earth. Three women protestors were allegedly manhandled by the police and hospitalised.
The protestors had raised various ecological concerns. They said the groundwater level in the region had come down as the compound wall of the hospital obstructed the flow of water to the nearby canals. They were apprehensive of the hospital adversely affecting public health in the thickly populated locality.
