Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate ‘Water Vision 2030,’ a workshop on challenges faced by water sources in the State and solutions to them, at the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kunnamangalam, at 10 a.m. on January 5.
P.T.A. Rahim, MLA, will preside over the function. M.K. Raghavan, MP, will hand over various water and sanitation structures of the CWRDM to the respective local bodies, a press release here said.
The centre had submitted a draft report on water resource management to the Chief Minister.

The report, based on the centre’s studies and other reports, detailed various water sources in the State and the problems faced by them with inputs on how to solve the problems.
The aim was to prepare Kerala to implement a sustainable water resource management plan by 2030.

The workshop intends to discuss the draft report in the presence of experts so as to compile the ideas that come up and submit a comprehensive report to the State government.
CWRDM executive director N.B. Narasimha Prasad; Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment member secretary K.K. Ramachandran; and scientists P.S. Harikumar, E.J. Joseph, V.P. Dinesan, Sushanth C.M., and George Chackacherry will take part in the discussions, the release said.
As part of its intervention in water sanitation that began in 2013, the CWRDM has renovated nearly 100 wells in various panchayats in the State, besides building eco-friendly toilets, determining standards of water sources, distributing water-purity cards, making sanitation maps, holding water literacy classes, and conducting training for Health Department officials.
