District to seek financial aid for rehabilitation of affected families

Local residents engaged in relief work at the landslip spot at Karimchola in Kattippara in Kozhikode.

A Central team will visit Kattippara on August 9 to assess the impact of the recent landslip in the region that claimed 14 lives. The district administration will submit a memorandum to the team seeking financial aid for proper rehabilitation of the affected families.

Meanwhile, a district-level meeting chaired by Collector U.V. Jose on Saturday decided to form a special committee to study the rehabilitation requirements. The committee will prepare a priority list of all the 69 families identified for rehabilitation. The committee will have senior Revenue Department officers and two experts.

Officials said the Union government’s support would be sought to set up a permanent rehabilitation shelter in the area, which is prone to landslip during monsoon.

Mr. Jose said a separate meeting would be convened soon to plan the reconstruction of damaged roads in the area.

Also, all required support will be given to the relief committee chaired by Karat Razak, MLA, he added.

The team will also visit the Thamarassery Ghat Road where land had caved in, interrupting inter-district traffic.
