Calicut Uni Vice Chancellor heeds staff demand

October 09, 2013 12:50 pm | Updated 12:50 pm IST - MALAPPURAM:

Calicut University Vice Chancellor M. Abdul Salam on Tuesday gave into the demands of the university employees in the stand-off over the implementation of Right to Services conditions.

The Vice Chancellor’s unyielding stand on the time-frame for various services had brought the employees and teachers belonging to different organisations under one banner for the first time in 27 years. Dr. Salam’s decision that degree certificates should be given away in five days after the Senate awards the degree had evoked sharp reaction from the employees.

In a conciliatory meeting held between Dr. Salam and the employees on Tuesday, he agreed to the conditions put forth by the employees.

Accordingly, degree certificates should be issued within a month from the date of award by the Senate.

The university employees put off their plans of agitation in the wake of the Vice Chancellor’s change in stand.
