BJP sees CPI(M) bid for ties with IUML

Says Congress, IUML and CPI(M) forming alliance

The CPI(M) has changed its views about the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in its sheer desperation to form an alliance with it against the Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP State president V. Mulraleedharan has said.

Talking to presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Muraleedharan said it was a sincere acknowledgement by the CPI(M) of the BJP’s growing influence in the State.

Strange formulation

A strange political formulation was taking shape against the BJP in different parts of the State. It is an alliance of the Congress, IUML, and the CPI(M). In many places, including Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kasaragod, this informal alliance had its common candidates against the BJP, he said.

Claiming that the BJP had grown significantly over the last five years, he said there were only 7,000 candidates for the party during the last local body elections. This had gone up to 18,000 this time. “It gives an indication of the party’s expansion at the grassroots level,” he said.
