KOZHIKODE: Against the backdrop of frequent reporting of primary immuno-deficiency disorders among children, a continuing medical education programme on the issue was conducted at the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences here on Sunday.
K.C. Rajagopalan, former professor, and head of the department of paediatrics, Government Medical College, Kozhikode, inaugurated the programme. More than a hundred doctors attended the sessions.
Manisha Madkaikar, Director in-charge, National Institute of Immunohematology (NIIH), Mumbai, and president, Indian Society for Primary Immune Deficiency (ISPID); Mukesh Desai, consultant hemato oncologist, Wadia Hospital; Mumbai, and Nita Radhakrishnan, secretary, ISPID, and consultant hemato oncologist, Delhi, spoke about clinical and laboratory diagnosis of primary immuno-deficiency disorders. Cases were presented by faculty members of the departments of paediatrics and dermatology at the medical college, and the delegates included physicians, paediatricians, microbiologists, pathologists, and dermatologists.

The programme was an attempt to raise awareness about inherited disorders of immune function that render children susceptible to frequent, severe and unusual infections, said a press release by P. Ranjith, secretary, Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Kozhikode branch.
It was organised by ISPID; NIIH, Mumbai; IAP, Kozhikode, and the department of paediatrics, Government Medical College, Kozhikode.
