Actor Suraj Venjaramoodu and playback singer Mridula Warrier jointly launched the new School Radio project at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chevayur, on Friday. The service, Bhavans Radio-19.90 , was launched with the support of a group of 52 trained radio jockeys from the school under the theme ‘Every voice has its own beauty’.
Project coordinators said the school radio station was set up with a vision to enhance students’ participation in creative events and explore their capabilities. Programmes with equal focus on education and entertainment will be aired in four languages, including English, Hindi, and Sanskrit, using a well-equipped studio, they added.
A Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) member said the school management had spent around ₹5 lakh to set up the studio with high-end sound systems, mixtures, and classroom speakers. The programmes to be broadcast during lunch break will reach around 1,800 students, including LKG and UKG students, at the school, he informed.

Though there will not be any real broadcasting procedures like transmission of radio waves to reach a wide audience linked to the actual radio network outside, the school radio project will literally create a similar feel for students with live programmes from their own studio. It will be straightaway reaching classrooms through loudspeakers. The official theme song and logo too were released to give the project a professional touch.
Project coordinators said special programmes like guest interviews, performance by students to honour young achievers, and experience sharing sessions by experts will spice up the daily broadcasting schedule.
Two students will be given charge to manage the station everyday and handle the transmission of programmes from 12.30 p.m. to 1.15 p.m. On Friday, A.K. Devika and Diya Parvati, two newly trained RJs, interviewed Mr. Venjaramoodu and Ms. Warrier to mark the launch.
