Actor Mamukkoya, musician Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, and writers Sathrughnan and P. Sajeev Kumar received the Basheer Awards instituted by Vaikom Muhammed Basheer Anusmarana Vedi and Manavamaithri Samskarika Padana Kendram in Kozhikode on Saturday. The awards were presented by Purushan Kadalundy, MLA, and writer K.P. Sudheera.
The Manavamaithri awards for the year were also presented on the occasion to environmentalist and Gandhian writer Sreeman Narayanan, Janaseva Sisubhavan chairman Jose Maveli, Indo-Arab Confederation Council president M.V. Kunhamu, Ayurveda physician Nishikanth Padoor, and writer Rakesh Peravur. Teams from Farook College, Feroke, and St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, winners and runners-up respectively of the Calicut University Interzone Arts Festival, were also honoured on the occasion.
Those who were felicitated include K.C. Vivek (Kalaprathibha), R.V. Anunanda (Kalathilakam), T. Abdul Salam (Sahityaprathibha), J.S. Sheethal (Chitraprathibha), P. Greeshma (Malayalam story writing), and M.P. Muhammed Sadiq and M. Sruthi (Malayalam Elocution).
