All-party meet exhorts parties to eschew violence

January 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - Kozhikode:

An all party meeting held at Vadakara on Saturday called for steps to prevent violence in the riot-hit rural belts in the district.

The meeting, chaired by District Collector C.A. Latha, was summoned in the wake of the killing of a Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist at Thooneri, near Nadapuram, on Thursday.

A gang allegedly belonging to Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) killed the youth and injured six others in a one-sided attack. This had resulted in large-scale violence and destruction of property, including crops. The meeting, which deplored the incident, urged the special police team to arrest all the accused involved in the attack. It was decided to hold separate meeting at Nadapuram, Kuttiyadi, Onchiyam, Orkkatteri, and Eramala grama panchayats to avert any incident in the future.

Peace committees would be formed in all these areas. Representatives of all political parties unanimously vowed not to shield their party workers getting involved in crimes.
