Kozhikode revenue school arts festival from tomorrow

Curtains will go up on the 57th Kozhikode Revenue District State School Arts Festival at JDT Islam Higher Secondary School at Vellimadukunnu here on January 4.

The five-day festival will be held at NGO Quarters High School and Higher Secondary School, Silver Hills Public School, Silver Hills Higher Secondary School, St. Philomena School, St. Joseph Junior School and Kuttancherry Siva Temple Open Auditorium.

Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran will inaugurate the festival at 5 p.m. Minister for Excise and Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan will give away the best PTA award on the occasion.

A colourful procession will be taken out from the Silver Hill Public School to the main venue at 3 p.m. to mark the inauguration of the festival. Uma Behra, Commissioner of Police, Kozhikode City, would flag off the procession, festival organising committee chairman Mayor Thottathil Raveendran and general convener Gireesh Cholayil, Deputy Director of Education, told a news conference here on Monday.

The off-stage items will be held at the 20 classrooms of the NGO Quarters High School. As many as 200 students are participating in the competitions via appeal procedures. More students would be competing in the events following orders from the Child Rights Commission and courts, the organisers said.

Mullappally Ramachandran, Vadakara MP, will inaugurate the valedictory function at 5 p.m. on January 8.

Purushan Kadalundi, MLA, will receive the Kala Vriksham ( Festival Tree) at the inaugural session while A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, will give away the award to the team behind the logo creation. The Kala Vriksham will be planted by M.K. Muneer, MLA.

M.K. Raghavan and M.I. Shanavas, MPs, will take part in the festivities. K. Dasan, MLA, will distribute financial aid to students on the final day.
