Leaders of the Students Affairs Council (SAC) at the National Institute of Technology - Calicut (NIT-C) have expressed hope that the authorities will address the “unreasonable academic restrictions and flaws in the existing grading policy”.
SAC coordinators, who recently organised a massive protest, said the NIT-C’s upcoming Senate meeting would take up the issue for detailed discussions. “We decided to move back from the indefinite strike, as the NIT-C Director himself gave the assurance to students,” they said.
The Senate meeting will be convened after the meetings of the department-level consultative committee and the Board of Academic Council.

SAC coordinators said their representatives would be following up the issue with individual faculty members.
“Going by the NIT-C’s stance, an immediate revision of the existing grading system cannot be considered in the current situation. But there are possibilities in the long term,” an SAC coordinator said.
He added that the approval of the Senate was crucial, as it was a policy matter.

NIT-C students had begun an indefinite strike last Thursday, raising various demands. The strike was called off the following day following talks between SAC coordinators and the NIT-C Director.
Around 1,500 students had taken part in the protest.
