Kozhikode: In a move that will directly benefit thousands of unemployed youths, Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan on Saturday announced the government’s plan to launch an exclusive job portal that would bring together job seekers and employers on a common platform.
Opening the third regional edition of ‘Niyukthi’ job fair organised by the National Employment Service at Malabar Christian College here, the Minister said the portal would be launched shortly with the support of the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence and Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants Limited.
Mr. Ramakrishnan said the portal would provide reliable information and services to both job seekers and potential employers. The training division of the Industries Department too will offer its services, he added.

Citing poor language skills of candidates as a major hurdle in gaining better employment, the Minister said the Labour Department would come up with new short-term courses to fine-tune the communication skills of young job aspirants. He added that the Perambra-model career guidance centres would be opened in all districts, in addition to the setting up of facilities for conducting finishing courses in various vocational streams.
On the circumstances that prompted the government to organise job fests, the Minister said it was the poor credibility of several recruiters that impelled it to take dominance in the sector. “Fraudsters are screened out at job fairs organised by the government, and it will be a huge relief to job seekers,” he pointed out.
District panchayat president Babu Parassery presided over the inaugural function. District Employment Officer K.S. Aswin Kumar said that as many as 91 leading employers from across the country are taking part in the fair. “Not less than 11,370 candidates from various north Kerala districts will attend the selection drive,” he added.

Spot registration was allowed on Saturday as the fair drew huge crowd. It is the third regional edition of ‘Niyukthi’, which has so far offered job opportunities to more than 20,000 candidates from the Malabar region.
