Eco campaign launched

Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan inaugurated ‘Sundaram Susthiram Harithabham’, an environment-friendly five-point action plan of the Kozhikode block panchayat on Saturday.

The year-long programme has components: ‘Oro thulliyum karuthalode’, ‘Haritha Patha’, ‘Nattumavin Chuna, Nattumanam’, ‘Nadum Veedum Sudhi’, and ‘Harithavaranam’.

The programme is organised by the block panchayat in association with Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute of Plant Sciences, Kudumbasree district mission, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme with the aim of protecting nature, greenery, and traditional water sources and thus protect the land from global warming.

As part of the ‘Oro thulliyum karuthalode’ project, traditional water sources will be protected while building new ones and conserving rain water.

Planting of trees

The ‘Harithapatha’ project envisages planting of trees along selected roads, while ‘Nattumavin Chuna, Nattumanam’ is a project to collect and distribute the saplings Mango, jackfruit and tamarind trees.

Waste management

‘Nadum Veedum Sudhi’ is a campaign for waste management and cleanliness. Harithavaranam’ is a project to create green belts in public places and institutions through the NREGS.

MLA P.T.A. Rahim presided over the inaugural function at Malabar Botanical Garden. District panchayat president Babu Parasseri was the chief guest.
