CPI(M) office set ablaze

The CPI(M) branch committee office at Vadakkumbad that was set ablaze early Tuesday.

: A branch office of the Communist party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] at Vadakkumbad Dharmadom in Kannur district was set ablaze by unknown miscreants in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police said the incident may have taken place after 2.30 a.m. The branch office of the party, adjacent to the Vadakkumbad post office, was set on fire after breaking open its front doors. Furniture, files and equipment kept inside the office on the upper floor of a two-storey building were destroyed.

Flames doused after an hour

Fire-fighters with the Department of Fire and Rescue Services at Dharmadom extinguished the flames after a one-hour operation, the police said.

CPI (M) leaders said some mischief-makers may be behind the attack. Their motive is destroy the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the region, they said.
