Continuing their fight for justice for Sourav Chowdhury, who was killed in Bamongchi in North 24 Parganas district on July 5 by a group of anti-socials for protesting their activities, the student’s family and friends gathered on Sunday to stage a demonstration on his birthday.
Mr. Chowdhury’s family and friends have formed a forum — Sourav Pratibadi Mancha — to seek justice on his behalf, which is represented by 100 members from various political parties.
The forum, on Sunday, convened a condolence meeting and took out a silent march in the locality.

Members of the forum also submitted a memorandum at the Superintendent of Police’s office, demanding capital punishment for those responsible for Mr. Chowdhury’s murder. They also demanded setting up a permanent police outpost which would provide much-needed security in the area.
Sanjeeb Chowdhury, the victim’s brother, said many people from various political parties had been visiting them to offer them their support but he would continue his struggle without any political help.

Food Minister and Trinamool Congress president of North 24 Parganas district Jyotipriya Mullick has also demanded capital punishment for the murderers.
Prime accused arrestedAll the accused in the murder including the prime accused, Shyamal Karmakar, have been arrested.
He has reportedly confessed the crime.
Shyamal had been absconding ever since Mr. Chowdhury’s body had been discovered beside the railway tracks between Bamongachi and Duttapukur.
