Choodamani awards for T.V. Gopalakrishnan, E. Gayathri

Multi-facted musician T.V. Gopalakrishnan, well-versed in Carnatic and Hindustani music traditions will recieve the Sangeeta Choodamani on August 3 at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. File photo

Sri Krishna Gana Sabha’s 58th Gokulashtami Sangeeta Utsavam will be inaugurated by S. Ramadorai, vice-chairman, Tata Consultancy Services and Advisor to the Prime Minister of India in the National Council on Skill Development , Govt. of India, on Saturday, August 3, 2013. Mr. Ramadorai will also confer the Sangeeta Choodamani on T.V. Gopalakrishnan, a multi-faceted musician. Thangam Meganathan, chairperson, Rajalakshmi Institutions, will confer the Aacharya Choodamani on E. Gayathri, noted veena artiste and Honorary Director, of the Tamil Nadu Governnent Music College.

Cleveland V.V. Sundaram, Ghatam V. Suresh and S. Varadarajan (violinist) will offer felicitations to the awrdees. The inaugural function will be followed by Shadjam ensemble led by T. Shyam Sundar.

Nadaratna awards will be be conferred on R.S. Jayalakshmi (veena), Suguna Varadachari (vocal), J. Vaidyanathan (mridangam), Usha Rajagopalan (violin) and Pudukottai Ramachandran (ghatam).
