Following the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that the country is clean, the Department of Primary and Secondary Education flagged off the ‘Swachh Bharat Swach Vidyalaya’ in Bangalore on Thursday.

Top education department officials including Principal Secretary of Primary and Secondary Education Rajkumar Khatri and Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammad Mohsin picked up the broom at two different schools in the city.

At a programme in Government Model Tamil and Kannada Primary school, hundreds of students from nearby schools came and participated in the event and took a pledge to keep their surroundings clean. After paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the students took an oath in Kannada to keep their surroundings clean.

Mr. Khatri said that schools across the State would participate in various cleanliness drives based on the directions given by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

G. Spandana, a class seven student of Government Kannada and Tamil Model Primary School said that following a cleanliness drive in her school on Thursday, the school looked a “lot” cleaner than usual.

While many schools began the campaign on Thursday, other private schools managements would launch it once the schools re-open after the Dasara Holidays.
