The State Government has accorded in-principle permission to set up Wi-Fi towers for 4 G services.

A GO on erection of cell towers, with several stringent conditions for erection of towers, would soon be amended, it was learnt.

Following the government’s decision, the GVMC had accorded permission for 44 wi-fi towers earlier. An additional 46 were applied for subsequently, it was learnt. Permission has also been accorded to put up aerial cables instead of digging up and laying them.

Visakhapatnam South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar also arrived and spoke to GVMC officials about the erection of the tower.

Earlier, locals opposed the erection of the tower and represented the issue on June 16 to the Municipal Commissioner. Municipal officials then maintained that no permission had been accorded for any tower in the city as none complied with the conditions in the GO.
