Lack of proper hygiene and sanitation take the sheen off MVP Colony-Sector II to a large extent. Absence of dustbins makes way for disorganised garbage system. As a result, heaps of debris fill most vacant sites and street corners.
Residents say that chain-snatchers are taking advantage of non-functional streetlights.
“Women are a little worried about crossing some lanes as the streetlights are not working there. We have been receiving at least two such incidents every month,” says B. Ramakrishna Rao, a retired controller of examinations, Andhra University.

Decades ago, serenity used to be the salient feature of the neighbourhood. However, the scenario seems to be entirely different now.
“We have to constantly put up with honking and movement of heavy vehicles as our house is just adjacent to a godown-cum-residence. In the afternoon, the place turns into a fish market as a number of labourers queue up for the daily work,” says A.K. Rani, a resident.

It is learnt that a site meant for the development of a community hall has eventually been allotted for construction of apartment blocks. Opposing the change in the layout plan, some of the residents have approached court and filed a case, following which the construction of the apartment complex has come to a halt.
Bus needed Expressing concern over bus service, M.S.V. Ramana Murthy, a retired divisional engineer of BSNL says, “We do not have any direct bus connectivity from here to Dabagardens. We have to get down at Asilmetta junction and wait for another bus or share-auto to reach Dabagardens. Since majority of us frequent the neighbourhood for banking and other purposes, the additional service is needed.”
