Officials of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) demolished 12 structures that were found to have been built in violation of regulations and permissions in the Gajuwaka Zone, GVMC Commissioner M V Satyanarayana said.

The Commissioner, who inspected the workings in the zonal office, said there were 26 structures that were identified as having been built in violation of various laws. Of these 12 were demolished on Tuesday, while notices were issued on some of the remaining ones and they would be demolished after the notice period expired, he said. Some of the structures were in court and a decision would be taken only after the court gave its judgement, he said. The civic body had filed the counters in the cases which were pending in court, according to a release issued here.

Referring to the constructions in Town Committee areas, Mr Satyanarayana said the GVMC Town Planning Wing did not have the jurisdiction to give permissions so the plans were rejected. However, these structures would have to conform to the existing rules and regulations and those found to be in violation would be demolished, he said. The Town Planning Wing officials are monitoring structures, he said.
