The sun-kissed tranquil beach at Suryalanka near Bapatla in Guntur district, where Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has developed a property – Haritha beach resort, is witnessing a flurry of activity ahead of a beach festival proposed to he hosted by the Tourism Corporation this month-end.
The two-day ‘Bhavapuri Beach Festival’ on June 22 and 23 (Bhavapuri is the old name of Bapatla) is likely to be a mega event with the likes of the Central and State Tourism Ministers K. Chiranjeevi and Vatti Vasantha Kumar respectively, Principle Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Andhra Pradesh Chandana Khan, Bapatla MP Panabaka Lakshmi, APCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana, Guntur district Ministers and a host of other VIPs attending the two-day beach carnival.
The Suryalanka beach is located at a distance of 9 km from the town of Bapatla in Guntur district and 50 km south of Guntur city. An ideal getaway from city life, the place allows visitors to enjoy the pristine beach and crystal clear water in a tranquil and serene ambience. The beach overlooks the clear blue water of the Bay of Bengal. The APTDC resort has air-conditioned rooms in addition to two dormitories.

Relying heavily on sea, sand and sunshine to ensnare tourists to this beach resort, the Tourism Corporation is eager to make the festival a grand success. “The festival will have all the trappings of a mega show such as competitions in games and sports like beach volleyball, women’s kabaddi, boat race and walking contest for senior citizens. Folk artists from different places will descend on the venue to entertain guests and artisans and weavers from across the country will exhibit and sell their products in stalls that will dot the place,” said the Tourism Corporation’s Divisional Manager, Krishna, G. Ramakrishna.
MP Panabaka Lakshmi visited the place on Sunday along with a team of officials to oversee the arrangements. “The Central Government has sanctions Rs.12 lakh to host the event and the share of the State government and local administration will be known at a meeting slated for Monday,” said Mr. Ramakrishna.

“All other allied departments are being involved to ensure success of this festival,” said Mr. Ramakrishna.
