Elaborate security measures have been put in place in connection with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s visit to the city on Thursday. The Chief Minister would arrive by a special flight from Chennai at around 11 a.m. and go straight to Srirangam where she would take part in a government function and launch various welfare schemes.
Later, the Chief Minister would inaugurate the day-long ‘Annadhanam’ at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. She would leave for airport and fly back to Chennai in the afternoon.
A comprehensive security plan has been drafted in connection with the Chief Minister’s visit and around 3,000 police personnel from various districts have been drafted for bandobust duty at various points.

Security strength has been augmented by drafting police personnel from the central zone comprising eight districts, including Tiruchi, as well as from Villupuram, Vellore, Kancheepuram and Salem city.
In addition to the two Deputy Commissioners of Police of Tiruchi city, Superintendents of Police from the central zone, a Deputy Commissioner of Police from Salem city, and SP, Nilgiris, form part of the security set-up, police sources said.
A total number of six companies each from Tamil Nadu Special Police and Armed Reserve would be deployed at different places.

As many as 12 teams of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad to carry out anti-sabotage checks have also been deployed .
Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav held a meeting with top police officers at the city police office here on Wednesday evening in connection with the Chief Minister’s visit. The sources said security had also been tightened at the airport.
