Collector L. Subramanian on Friday released the latest electoral rolls for 10 Legislative Assembly constituencies in the district and said 23,61,027 voters — 11,75,955 men, 11,85,006 women, and 66 transgenders — had found place in the rolls though applications for fresh enrolment would be entertained continuously until further orders from the Election Commission. Addressing a press conference, he said those desirous of including their names in the electoral list could submit the applications either at the office of the jurisdictional Tahsildar or Revenue Divisional Officer. “Let people not think that their names cannot be registered hereafter. Registration is still open,” he added.
The rolls released by him on Friday contained 1,21,755 additional voters compared to 22,39,272 voters in the list released on October 1, 2013. It amounted to an increase of 5.44 per cent in the number of voters. Though 1,25,707 applications had been received between October 1 and 31, a total of 3,952 got rejected owing to various reasons, including address change, death and absence of signatures.
In Madurai Parliamentary constituency, there were 14,02,152 voters — 6,98,036 men, 7,04,073 women and 43 transgenders. The number of voters had increased by 71,918 compared to 13,30,234 voters found on the rolls as on October 1, 2013.

Mr. Subramanian said 3,930 applications were received online. They were clubbed with the regular applications and the officials were asked to visit the residences of those applicants to check their veracity. “We found that most of the applicants were not residing in the address mentioned in the applications. Some of them had applied for the second time,” he said.
