Voters’ strength in Tiruchi district, consisting of nine Assembly constituencies, has increased by 95,571 following the summary revision of electoral rolls taken up since October.
As per the final electoral roll, the district has 20,33,188 voters with women slightly outnumbering men. The district has 10,27,480 women voters, 10,05,621 men, and 87 transgenders.
Srirangam constituency has the maximum number of voters of 2,60,437, and Lalgudi is at the bottom of the list with a strength of 1,91,331.
Collector Jayashree Muralidharan released the final electoral rolls here on Friday in the presence of officials and representatives of political parties.
Women outnumber men in eight constituencies – Srirangam, Tiruchi West, Tiruchi East, Lalgudi, Manachanallur, Musiri, Manapparai, and Thuraiyur.
Only Tiruverumbur constituency has more men voters than women. The district has 1,022 women voters for every 1,000 men. As per the draft rolls released last year prior to the summary revision, the district had a total of 19,44,477 voters of which 9,65,414 were men, 9,78, 985 women, and 78 transgenders.
During the summary revision, 99,778 applications were received for inclusion of names in the voters’ list. Of this, 95,571 eligible voters were included.
This includes 33, 571 voters in the age group of 18 to 19 as the qualifying date for the summary revision was January 1. The names of 6,860 deceased voters have been excluded.
The electoral rolls will be displayed at the corporation main office, offices of assistant commissioners, offices of revenue divisional officers, and taluk offices for people to verify whether their names have been included.
Awareness programmesMs. Muralidharan said awareness programmes and rallies to sensitise voters to the importance of exercising their franchise would be held across the district on January 26, observed as Voters’ Day.
