The city police on Thursday arrested two Yemeni nationals for allegedly procuring ‘Khat’ leaves – a narcotic drug smuggled from Ethiopia through Mumbai – and selling it to fellow foreigners here.
The arrested, identified as Emad Saif Mohammed (29) and Mohammad Ali (21), both residents of Langer Houz, had come to the country on student visas. Saif was pursuing MBA at a private college in Masab Tank. Ali came to India two months ago and was studying in Bangalore. The leaves were secretly procured under the guise of vegetables by air cargo.
The duo, along with one Shahid from the city, began selling the leaves to agents for Rs.400 per bundle.

Burglars arrested
Cyberababd police on Thursday arrested five persons on charges of committing burglaries.
Fifty-four tolas of gold jewellery, 15 tolas of silver ornaments, four motorcycles, eight mobile phones and other electronic gadgets – all worth over Rs.19 lakh – were recovered from P. Rajender Kumar (24) of Visakhapatnam, Ch. Ravi (24) of Erragadda, E. Prabhu (25) of Sanathnagar, B. Raj Kumar (20) of Vijayawada and B. Ballingam (21) of Medak.
